233: Cube Organized Materialized Views - do they deliver?

Speakers:

Peter Scott, Rittman Mead Consulting    Biography

Abstract: The 11g release 1 of the Oracle database introduces Cube Organized Materialized Views to Oracle OLAP. This new feature permits standard SQL queries (such as those generated by non-OLAP aware reporting tools) to transparently access OLAP cube data through a query rewrite mechanism. This session introduces the feature and its uses and limitations before investigating the benefits (or drawbacks) of using Cube Organized Materialized Views in comparison with conventional materialized view summary tables and the SQL cube views available in Oracle 10g OLAP.
